Shawnee Mountain Ski & Snowboarding Area
The closest Poconos Ski Area to New York and New Jersey, situated just off the Delaware River and the New Jersey border. Shawnee Mountain has earned a reputation for aggressive snowmaking and quality grooming. Shawnee offers day and night skiing, snowboarding and a new tubing park. They have invested $1 million on capital improvements including: two new ground level conveyor lifts, a new snowcat, new ski and snowboard rental equipment, additional snow gun, and several base area upgrades. Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
There are two trails for cross country skiing in the
Gap National Park Area, one in New Jersey at the Kittatinny Center, and
one at Slteford Farm, south of the town of Delaware Water Gap and part
of the Appalachian Trail. The Slateford Farm trail is of varying degrees
of difficulty . There are flat areas as well as uphill areas. There are
not rental facilities or equipment, nor fees to use the trail. Maps are
available at the parks' offices. The trails for snowmobiling are not at
this location. Loop 1 is at Smithfield Beach area, and loop 2 is another
location off River Road that intersects the Smithfield Beach trail. These
trails are not maintained, and so their availability is dependent upon
weather conditions. Smithfield Beach is on River Toad south of Bushkill,
however use of a map is recommended to use the trails. Loop 1 is on level
terrain; Loop 2 is very hilly and is not advisable for low-powered vehicles.
There are no fees for use of the recreation area land, and there are no
rentals as well. Visit

Jack Frost Ski Area
Jack Frost has 21 trails, seven lifts and a vertical
of 600 feet. There are all level of terrain at Jack Frost. Because of
the terrain at Jack Frost - which is considered challenging - its racing
programs (junior and adult) are well regarded and have produced members
of the U.S. Ski Team. Night skiing is not available at Jack Frost. Snowtubing
and snowmobiling are offered for nonskiers. Snowboarding is available.
Starter lessons are available and suitable for every age level, as is
the rental equipment. A special program offered at Jack Frost is the "Adaptive
Ski Program" for the mentally and physically impaired. Special Ski
Olympics are held here for adaptive skiers, and local high school students
